Not only is Bernard home sick… but he’s home sick watching bad daytime tv from 1985! Seriously, this is the kind of nonsense that I was stuck with as a kid when I was home from school with a cold. I’ve noticed that things haven’t changed TOO much in the years since then, but I still thought it was funnier with my out-of-date references.

Man, I don’t have nearly as much to say about this strip as I do about MAKING it at 4 in the morning due to insomnia. There’s few things as obnoxious as being unable to sleep when you know you need to be u p and functioning by 6:30 A.M.

I had a really crummy day today (yesterday as you read this) so I don’t feel particularly witty concerning today’s gram. So just read the strip and laugh, dagnabit.

Sorry the strip has been so late the last couple of days. Aside for being a little sick myself, I haven’t gotten much sleep and have a lot of stuff going on that is making it tough to find time to work on the strip. Thankfully, I have a short story that I was commissioned to do a few weeks ago that I can run starting on Monday to help make up for some of my down time and help me get caught up without having to resort to reruns again.
When I wrote this strip, It originally had a much different ending, with Dandy flushing the toilet in the third panel causing a cold water shock to Bernard. Bernard screamed out Dandy’s name, and in the last panel, Dandy responded with the punchline: “What, just because you’re sick doesn’t mean I’M off duty.”
I thought it was a good punchline, but i actually preferred the quieter pacing of the strip as it is. I think the “Psycho” style framing and anticipation of the toilet flush is a little funnier than just showing it all.

This was a tough week to get through, not only because I’ve been fighting off a cold myself, but just because of stress in general. The economy has been particularly stressful as I still don’t have a regular job and am getting by on commissions and freelance work. That said, if you feel like making a DONATION to you favorite online comic strip, this would be a good time to do so. ;) (NOT PvP, this one, dagnabbit!)
