Seat’s taken

Now that’s a skill that’s GOT to come in handy… even though he’s hollow inside like a terminator crossed with a chocolate easter bunny.

Kids, don’t try this at home!

Ya’know, there’s some interesting problems in the design of a noose for a cartoon character. It has to be big enough to go over the MASSIVE head, yet tight enough for the tiny neck… it’s a really sticky wicket.

That said, I looked at this finished strip and realized that, without Bernard’s mental comment in the last panel that this strip is INSANELY morbid and dark looking. Seriously. I follow Dandy about to hang himself with Bernard shooting himself in the head. Initially, there was no line about water guns at all, but I really wanted to cement that Bernard was NOT committing some kind of horrible, boredom induced suicide.

Asimov’s Laws

From Wikipedia: “In science fiction, the Three Laws of Robotics are a set of three rules written by Isaac Asimov, which almost all positronic robots appearing in his fiction must obey. Introduced in his 1942 short story “Runaround,” although foreshadowed in a few earlier stories, the Laws state the following:

  • A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  • A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  • A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
  • Later, Asimov added the Zeroth Law: “A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm”; the rest of the laws are modified sequentially to acknowledge this.”

Gotta GO!

Before anyone accuses me of negative stereotyping with the counter clerk, I’d like to point out that I live in Florida and have met that guy more times than I’d care to remember! In fact, i’m pretty certain that he was once an in-law of mine.
