Every Rose has it’s thorn
Establishing Pumpkin with an owner was not the original goal of the “Dog Park” sub-plot. It grew rather organically, out of some online discussions with D.C. Simpson, the creator of the insanely smart and touching OZY and MILLIE. We’ve been talking back and forth about the rather touchy subject of dog ownership in a universe where dogs are basically furry little humans, no less intelligent than any biped. And recently, he submitted another guest strip (to run tomorrow), that poised the question to me: “Who owns Pumpkin?”
Now we know it’s an elderly woman named Rose. I’ll let you all hop into the forums to discuss your thoughts on this new character in the “D&Cverse”. I can pretty much guarantee she won’t be a regular, but I do have plans to elaborate on her and her relationship to Pumpkin further and wonder what you all think of this latest (and decidedly less than chipper) development.
And while I still don’t want to go full steam ahead into the choppy waters of the drama surrounding this issue could create, I don’t think I could honestly pretend there wasn’t a story there just out of fear that it could get tough to write about.
