was born in 1974 in Amityville, New York and quickly came to the realization that his future was in art and cartooning. This was directly after learning that Crayons were not intended to be eaten.
From as early as 1977, Derrick began creating his own super-heroes and funny animals with a lot of imagination and very little actual skill. Dandy was eventually born in 1982.
After High school, Derrick attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, New Jersey for one year. It was here that Dandy evolved into his most current form, and where the beginnings of the path he would take would come about.
After his first year at Kubert, Derrick decided to move on and expand his artistic horizons beyond the more focused curriculum of the comic-centric school. He moved to Florida and attended classes at the Orlando International School of Visual and Entertainment Design for two years focusing on animation and design.
Derrick Fish lives in Lake Mary, Florida as a Graphic Designer and all around cartooning fiend, producing not just Dandy’s strips, but also drawing the exciting comic book, TAILS TO AMAZE!
“I drew them on everything I could up until 1986, when I decided to emulate my favorite comic strips like Garfield, Peanuts and Bloom County, and make a Dandy comic strip. The six-panel gag with Dandy and Bernard worked — everyone who read it loved it! My teacher suggested I make more for her to pin up on the bulletin board of the classroom. I was in heaven — I had made a funny comic strip!!
