Messin’ up his game

Just a little reminder that life does, in fact, go on in spite of Dandy’s absence.

Property Issues

This is a topic that really never gets brought up around here: The idea that, while sentient and “Human” in almost every way, Dandy IS a dog and IS property of the Brooks family. This strip was inspired by a conversation I had on the subject with D.C. Simpson of Ozy & Millie fame and one I was looking forward to. The issue of Dandy’s status as property and talking animals place in society is one that COULD be a really great story, but one that I feel has too many inherent dark overtones to do in this strip without getting REALLY depressing.

Pink elephants in the room

At this point, Audrey is being the worst kind of friend to Maryweather. I’ve know entirely too many people who think that if they give you advice and you don’t follow it to the letter, that it’s an insult to THEM. And that’s how Audrey is behaving right now.

She feels slighted that Maryweather ignored her (obviously superior) advice. And the fact that Maryweather even got angry at Audrey for pushing her point of view upset her even more. Audrey, it is clear, is very used to one-sided relationships and she’s not dealing well with Maryweather asserting her OWN feelings in this case.

Saying too much

Bernard really needs a dead bolt installed on his mouth, sometimes. Although, for me, my favorite part about writing this strip came from having Maryweather call Bernard, “Beanie-Boy”.

From her it comes across as somehow… frightening.

Distractions

I’ve been focusing on the other characters for the last few days to update everyone on just what they’ve been up to. But I promise to get back to the “A” story on Monday.
