I did a very similar gag last week where lil’ Dandy was able to perform an otherwise IMPOSSIBLE feat while off camera. I wanted to repeat the concept to emphasise that lil’ Dandy’s pranking powers are uncanny. And as a cartoon character, he can do ANYTHING when outside the frame. This is inspired by a classic Chuck Jones, Bugs Bunny cartoon: “Bully for Bugs”. Bugs is taunting the bull in the cartoon and does a little dance out of frame. Immediately, the bull can no longer see him. It was a weird little gag I wanted to touch on here.

I think the entire purpose of today’s strip… other than to set up the conclusion of the storyline… is to finally just say it… “Dandy is Unstable!” After 5 years, it felt good to get it off my chest. ;)

Tickling… I don’t know WHY you all seem to love it, but you do. Since the strip began, I’ve had more requests and story suggestions surrounding Dandy tickling Bernard or Bernard tickling Dandy than ANYTHING else. In the past, I’ve attempted to appease the tickling audience when Lort Testa tortured Bernard by tickling him, or when Dandy popped out of Maryweather’s mailbox to tickle HER, but these attempts have only riled you guys. It HAS to be Dandy and Bernard for the tickle croud, and that’s kinda strange, but who am I to judge.

TODAY’S strip art was a request during the most recent commisisons, and once again, I found an in-character way to cheat the formula. Personally, I wouldn’t THINK of trying to tickle Dandy were he real… I value my life and safety too much.

Longtime readers will immediately recognize the dog in the last frame as Pumpkin… the founder of a support group for domesticated dogs trying to get back in touch with their inner-wild animals. She’s been in the strip a while but hasn’t been seen since Maryweather left, having also been used in Snuffles last evil plot. Ya’ know, this could take a while if I just try and re-tell her whole back story. If you’re new to the strip and don’t know who Pumpkin is, I suggest a lengthy dip into the ARCHIVES.

Also, it should be noted that this younger Dandy does NOT share Mistake’s speach impediment.
