Some of you longtime readers will notice some slight changes to the strip starting today. I’ve played around with the way I handle TYPE in the strip, trying to find a more natural looking typeface for the dialouge. I picked the font, “CRIMEFIGHTER BB” from the fine folks over at BLAMBOT! Blambot does a ton of the typefaces you see in online and print comics alike.

I’ve also changed the way I do word balloons, with bleeding balloons that go out into the border of the strips itself to allow for the text to go as far to the edge of the strip as possible, and make it easier for balloons to OVERLAP a little. Hopefully, readability is as clear as ever, and the change isn’t too distracting.

I’ve also decided to try and put more shadowing and toning into the character to pop them out and make them more defined. I’ve done this for years in the comic book stories, but have avoided bringing it into the regular strip until now.

Now, some of you might be wondering just WHY I felt like playing around with the strip… and the answer is Scott Kurtz. Now, it’s been making the rounds among the online comics news sources that Scott is developing his uber-awesome online comic, PvP into a series of animated cartoons starting this upcoming February. Now, like any lover of cartoons, I can’t wait to see the series and have been making Scott wish he’d never given me his phone number. ANYWHO, Scott is travling to Canada to visit Blind Ferret Ent., the animation house developing the upcoming toon, and he asked me to step in and help him out with some guest strips to cover his absence this coming week. So, happy to help, I’ve been pumping out some new PvP comic strips, and in the process have been experimenting a little… and that experimentation is bleeding back home to Dandy & Company. Hope you like the results.
