The strip, to many, is quite NEW right now, so I wanted to do a few strips that had the flavor of an introduction. In today’s strip, we get to be reaccuainted with Bernard’s long-suffering mother, Mae.

And here’s Bernard’s father, George. I’m not playing him QUITE as stupid as I’ve done so in the past here. Let’s hope time has given him SOME wisdom.

Some of you have also noted that Bernard’s hat is now BLACK instead of the old 40% grey of the pre-hiatus strips. It’s just an artistic choice to make the strip a little bolder. If he’s wearing his Beanie hat, it’s still the same Red and Yellow it used to be.

One of the more frequent criticisms of this strip I’ve read, is that things rarely change and characters don’t grow. Personally, I think most of these critics must be reading something else entirely and not MY archives.

While things are hardly moving in “real time”, my cast has done more growing that most comic strips, online or off. Today’s strip is a SMALL example of that growth. Bernad isn’t out-and-out STUPID. He knows a Dandy set up when he sees one.

Now THIS, my friends, is what “Community Theater” is all about.

When I drew this, I was watching the original King Kong on DVD, just days away from buying Peter Jackson’s REMAKE on DVD. I LOVE both films with a passion, and just HAD to draw some Ape Action. There will be more Kongy goodness in future Sunday pages.

–UPDATE–
I’ve officially finished ALL of the commission drawings ordered and will be shipping them ALL out this week to their owners. So if you ordered an original drawing, keep your eyes peeled in the next few days! “WHEW”

Here’s the return of Will Rodriquez’s MIGHTY MANGLER! Of course, in this strip, he’s in his civilian identy of Mimo Mangulario… frequent employer of Bernard’s babysitting skills. I love getting to play with Will’s characters and plan to have them pop up MUCH more in the strip.
