As a web cartoonist, one of the questions I’m asked most is “Why the Internet?”. Strips like today’s is the reason.
I’ve been planning this event for some time now. Every strip where Maryweather follows Pumpkin or Snuffles instead of her own instincts has been a building block for this. If “D&C” were a newspaper syndicated strip or loomed over by big business or an editorial department, this strip would be rejected in favor of a one-note gag.
Change of any kind is scary when you’re playing by the rules. And if you’ve been reading THIS strip for any serious length of time, you should know that I HATE the rules.
The status quo has NEVER been an untouchable golden rule around here, and I don’t plan on making it so any time soon. I’m not going to sit here and expect you to believe that we’ve seen the last of Maryweather… I know you’re not STUPID, guys. But I can assure you that her role in the strip and her future is never going to be QUITE the same as it has been. I hope you all continue to enjoy the ride.
